Members from ARL High School Girls team Storm recently visited several cities in El Salvador as part of a cultural and sports exchange sponsored by the Arlington Sister City Association and the San Miguel Committee.
As part of the exchange, eight players from schools in San Miguel were chosen to play with the Storm. Five games were played at local fields. The Storm distributed soccer balls to the teams they played that were generously donated by Arlington Soccer Association. Additionally, uniforms donated by DC Stoddert soccer were given to the Salvadoran players.
The trip was not just about playing soccer. The girls also visited an orphanage in San Miguel. The team had lunch with the children and spent time talking and playing. The children were delighted to interact with them.
During their stay, the team went to several different beaches for a day of leisure and had a great time swimming in the ocean and playing on the beach.
This was a rewarding experience for not only the Arlington and Salvadoran players, but also for the coaches and chaperones, as they recognized all of the many things they have in common even while separated by many miles.
The team is currently planning for a return visit in July 2020, as three other schools would like to be included in an exchange.
